Greensburg/Decatur County Tourism is excited to announce that we are taking part in the "Back Home Again in Indiana" community outreach program, sponsored by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Greensburg is in the Top 10 in this year's "Back Home Again in Indiana" competition.
Please cast your vote for Greensburg!
IMS is challenging Indiana communities to decorate our main streets, city centers, and town squares, focusing on the history and innovations of the Indianapolis 500 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway itself. We will be judged by a panel of legendary Indianapolis 500 drivers and Hoosier celebrities, who will evaluate our creativity and uniqueness. Depending on how we fare, we may be eligible for prizes ranging from $2500 to the grand prize of $20,000 to be used for a local community project.
Greensburg/Decatur Co. Tourism Director Melanie Maxwell is spearheading a group of local volunteers to organize and execute local efforts to "Go Greensburg" and celebrate the Indianapolis 500's rich history. Should we win, the committee has committed to establishing a small park on the corner of Lincoln and Main streets, offering special recognition to Greensburg's native son, Carl Fisher. Never heard of Mr. Fisher? You may be surprised to learn that the 500 was borne of his creativity.
Check out our "Greensburg's 500+ Track Record" to learn more about Mr. Fisher's story, and other great connections that Greensburg has to racing.
Join us in our month-long celebration, as we kickoff our own race to victory as we "Go GREENsburg", and race to a fabulous, checkered-flag finish.
